Annual citywide Vallejo Open Studios (VOS) was brought to life in 2010 as a way to engage all the various art groups to participate in one all encompassing event. A variety of open studios events had always taken place throughout Vallejo and continue to do so, however during the second weekend that falls in November, all artists throughout Vallejo are encouraged to participate and either open their studios to the public or collaborate with other artists in a location of their choosing.

Artists are typically visual artists working in any media.

The event is largely promoted by its participants, some local advertising and social media. Fees have been kept low to ensure the event is affordable for everyone. Refer to our Policies and Procedures for this year’s fee and for additional information.

Who Can Participate?

Any artist may participate. If you plan to exhibit from your studio, you’ll need to apply online so that your location will be promoted in our printed artist directory and on our website. We also accept artists from outside of Vallejo; you just need to have a location in Vallejo at which to exhibit.

Other Options for Exhibiting

You also have the option of joining with other artists and showing together at one location. Some artists have paired with shop owners in Vallejo to exhibit their work, as long as the shop owner will be open during open studios hours.

Why Pay the Fee?

To ensure that all artists can participate, artists may participate at another artist’s location and be listed as a guest. However, we encourage all artists to apply online and pay the fee for many reasons:

  • To have an image of your art in our directory and on our website
  • To have your contact information in our directory
  • To have an example of your art in our month long exhibit at the Vallejo Naval and Historic Museum
  • Entry fees enable VOS to publicize the event, bringing more people to purchase art

When Does It Take Place?

VOS takes place each year during the second weekend that falls in November. The hours are 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. If the first of November falls on a Sunday, we consider that the first weekend of November, and VOS would take place November 7 and 8.

For more details and for information about our month long exhibit at the Vallejo Naval and Historic Museum, refer to our Policies and Procedures.
